From 18-19 September 2018, the EU-China Aviation Partnership Project (APP) successfully held a workshop in Hangzhou dedicated to capacity and demand assessment for effective implementation of Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM).

The activity provided an opportunity to exchange European and Chinese current practices and experiences on capacity and demand assessment processes. Topics that were discussed covered coordination between stakeholders, the importance of data exchange to coordinate between adjacent Flight Information Regions (FIRs), the European ATFM model, and integrated ATFM applications, among others. Case studies were presented, and contributions made by industry stakeholders ADCC, Thales, and KLM.

Through extensive discussions and engagement of the participants, the two-day workshop successfully raised understanding of how well-designed data and information sharing processes could support the establishment of a nationwide ATFM. It concluded with the identification of subtopics for future cooperation between the European and Chinese stakeholders. Close to fifty participants attended the workshop, including representatives of EASA, Eurocontrol, Croatia Control, CAAC, ATMB, aviation universities, airports, airlines, and other European and Chinese industry stakeholders.
