With the Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) Workshop on 28 and 29 June, the EU-China Aviation Partnership Project concluded a month with four cooperation activities between European and Chinese partners attracting hundreds of participants. Exchanging the latest developments in their implementation of ATFM, experts from EUROCONTROL, ATMB, DSNA, KLM, Nanjing LES Information Technology and LVNL contributed to a fruitful event with more than 150 participants in attendance.

The first day started with a presentation on traffic forecast and sector availability, followed by collaborative network solutions. After that, the current situation and operational mode of China’s ATFM was presented. This was followed by a brief overview on the Network Manager Agreements in Europe and an overview of the implementation of User-driven Prioritisation Process (UDPP) practice and its working procedure. On the second day, a more extensive overview was delivered on the European model of cooperation for ATFM, as well as on the collaboration among systems including data sharing. In addition, a presentation was held on the airspace management cooperation and coordination with the military in Europe. Following that, China’s national ATFM system was explained, as well as ATFM cooperation with other countries. The workshop concluded with a presentation on innovative capacity management at Schiphol Airport using Network Manager data.

Throughout the workshop, attendees made use of the opportunity to raise their questions to the experts. The representatives of both Chinese and European authorities closed the event with the observation that the cooperation on ATFM is beneficial and should be continued, including face-to-face meetings once the pandemic related restrictions have eased.
