On 30 November and 1 December, the EU-China Aviation Partnership Project (APP) hosted its last workshop of the year 2022, with participating experts from China, Europe as well as from Canada, for a milestone workshop on the concept of Established on Required Navigation Performance (EoR). Building on, among others, the results of extensive study projects in China (namely the Shanghai TMA optimisation project and the Tianjin Airport study project) under the first phase of the EU-China APP, this event was intended to bring together the wider range of relevant EoR stakeholders and experts in order to share more experience and facilitate a deeper understanding of the concept, cost, and benefits.

After the opening of the event by EASA and CAAC, the participants were provided with insights into the application prospect of EoR in China and the general principles of the concept. Over the course of two days, EoR aspects, benefits, challenges and cost aspects were presented from multiple angles, including from the airport, ATC and airline perspectives. Research into the application and key issues before considering EoR implementation were also discussed in-depth, and last but not least, the latest valuable experience from EoR implementation in Canada was presented. The main contributions for this workshop were provided by CAAC, ATMB, CAUC, Airbus NAVBLUE, Swedavia, LFV, Novair, and NAV CANADA.

Lively discussions throughout the workshop between the experts, further stimulated by the many questions raised by attendees, signalled the great interest in the EoR concept and implementation prospects. Around 150 representatives of authorities, academia and industry took part in the activity. In conclusion of the event, it was stated that continued EU-China cooperation on the path towards EoR implementation was highly anticipated.
