The EU-China Aviation Partnership Project (APP) organised a workshop to exchange on best practices in airport operations management, with a focus on regulations related to the provision of ground handling services, and implementation in Europe through the presentation of use cases. This event took place online from 10 to 11 October, with the respective European and Chinese authorities as well as airport operators and associations sharing their insights.

On the first day, the authorities started with presentations on the Ground Handling Directive 96/67/EC (European Commission DG MOVE) and the ground handling market in China and development of market access policy (CAAC Department of Airport). After this, perspectives from industry on ground handling, ground operations and challenges faced by ground handlers were shared by presenters from Airports Council International (ACI) Europe, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the Airport Service Association (ASA). On the second day, the Civil Aviation Management Institute of China (CAMIC) explained the airport regulation on safety and quality of ground handling service by CAAC. The workshop ended with Munich Airport and Prague Airport presenting their insights on management of safety operations of Ground Service Providers.

Close to 90 participants attended the event, and made good use of the opportunity to raise questions to the speakers. The discussion contributed to a useful exchange of experiences with safe and efficient ground handling services.
