On 16 and 17 October, the EU-China Aviation Partnership Project (APP) organised an online workshop for European and Chinese stakeholders to exchange on the definitions, analyses and improvements of Runway Occupancy Time (ROT). The content of this workshop was led by EUROCONTROL and ATMB, and aimed to increase mutual understanding of Chinese and European practices concerning ROT.

Following the opening remarks from EASA, ATMB and EUROCONTROL, the first day programme kicked off with an overview of arrival ROT analysis and ROT modelling in China. After that, a deeper discussion on ROT understanding was presented, as well as ROT analysis and ROT awareness and reduction guidance for Crew. On the second day, additional presentations were given on SESAR / Optimised ROT spacing solution based on local characterisation (the iROT/ROCAT scheme), and on airborne ROT prediction solutions.

Apart from ATMB and EUROCONTROL, additional contributors were the Civil Aviation Flight University of China (CAFUC) and Airbus. Over 160 representatives of authorities, industry and academic institutions were in attendance of the workshop, which concluded to be a successful exchange of experience encouraging further cooperation between European and Chinese colleagues in the pursuit of increasing runway capacity.
