From 22 to 23 May, the EU-China Aviation Partnership Project (APP) organised a workshop on the subject of Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) implementation perspectives in Europe and China. Gathering close to 70 participants from authorities, airports and air operators, the event in Chengdu helped to exchange best practices and lessons learned from the implementation experience at different airports.
On the first day, the activity started with a visit to the Second Research Institute (SRI) of CAAC for A-CDM and Artificial Intelligence (AI) research and product demonstrations. In the afternoon, EUROCONTROL and AENA (operator of Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport) presented the new development of A-CDM in Europe and the day finished with a presentation from Guangzhou Baiyun Airport on their development and application of A-CDM. On the second day, a range of topics was covered including Total Airport Management (TAM), A-CDM and Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) integration, air-ground collaboration, Smart Operation research and implementation, and Airport Digital Twin Forecasts, with a final visit to Chengdu Tianfu International Airport. In addition to the abovementioned entities, additional contributions were made by CAAC Operation Supervisory Center (OSC), Sichuan Airport Group, Civil Aviation Management Institute of China (CAMIC), Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, and IATA.
There was an in-depth interaction between the speakers and the audience, and participants found the presentations of both European and Chinese way of working on A-CDM very insightful. The EU-China APP will continue to support exchanges on these and related subjects to promote mutual learning and development.
