From 12 to 14 September, the EU-China Aviation Partnership Project (APP) organised a workshop on the Evidence-Based Training (EBT) performance assurance strategy. With over 250 participants attending the exchange between authorities and industry, this event was a successful continuation of the EU-China cooperation on the subject of EBT, following two previous workshops in July 2020 and June 2022

The workshop started with a presentation by the CAAC Flight Standard Department on deepening the reform of transport airlines flight training in China. The Spanish National Aviation Authority AESA followed with an elaboration on the training courses for EBT inspectors from authority perspective. The discussion at the workshop further consisted of presentations from industry partners, covering EBT and CBTA Implementation Guides, mixed EBT implementation, EBT data report writing method, CBTA support by aircraft manufacturers, EBT training effectiveness evaluation method, airlines’ experience with EBT preparation, implementation and challenges, and evidence data on instructor concordance. The industry expert contributions were made by IATA, Vueling, Brussels Airlines, China Southern, Airbus, Boeing, Lufthansa, Sichuan Airlines, and Shandong Airlines.

Participants made good use of the opportunity to ask questions to the presenters, and the workshop finished with an open discussion session giving the floor to participants to raise more specific topics of their interest. It was concluded by the CAAC and EASA that the workshop had provided detailed and helpful recommendations to address pain points and challenges of EBT implementation. It was emphasised that the exchanges need to continue in the future, to learn from each other and see to the successful entry into the market of new technologies also from a safety and pilot point of view.
